Damp Proofing Specialists

Accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of damp problems, protecting your property and creating a healthier home.

Getting to the root of the problem

Damp can come from several sources, including rising damp from the ground, penetrating damp through walls and roofs, and condensation inside the home. Each needs a different solution, so an accurate diagnosis comes first.
Once surveyed and diagnosed, we recommend the right solution for your property. Depending on the problem, that could be a damp proof course (DPC), a damp proof membrane (DPM), tanking or improved ventilation, and some properties need more than one remedy.
Damp makes your home colder and more expensive to heat, and encourages mould and fungal growth. It often goes unnoticed for a long time, which is why it pays to have an experienced damp proofer diagnose the problem correctly.

Common signs of damp

Tide marks or staining low down on internal walls
Peeling paint, wallpaper or crumbling plaster
White salt deposits on wall surfaces
Musty smells or rotting skirting boards

How we work

1. Damp survey

We identify the type and source of the damp before recommending any treatment.

2. Remove damaged plaster

Salt-contaminated plaster is stripped back so the wall can be treated and allowed to dry out.

3. Treat the cause

Depending on the diagnosis, we install a damp proof course, damp proof membrane, tanking or ventilation to stop moisture getting in.

4. Re-plaster

Walls are re-plastered with a suitable salt-resistant system, ready for decoration.

Frequently asked questions

Is all damp rising damp?

No. Condensation and penetrating damp are very common and are treated differently. That is why we always diagnose the cause before recommending a treatment.

What damp treatments do you offer?

We install damp proof courses (DPC), damp proof membranes (DPM), tanking and ventilation. Every problem is different, so we recommend the treatment once we know the cause.

Why does the plaster need replacing?

Rising damp carries salts into the plaster. These salts attract moisture from the air, so the wall can stay damp even after a new damp proof course is installed unless the plaster is replaced.

How soon can I decorate afterwards?

We will advise on drying times for your property, as these vary depending on the wall construction and the plaster system used.
